Vote Kōtuku for 'Bird of the Year'!

Celebrate the Kōtuku and its special place in Aotearoa

White Heron Sanctuary Tours is honoured to be the official campaign manager for the revered Kōtuku in Forest & Bird’s annual Bird of the Year competition.

With a stable population of just 150–200 individuals, and only one nesting site in Aotearoa, the Kōtuku is one of New Zealand’s rarest native species and is particularly vulnerable.

​Once hunted to the brink of extinction for its prized plumage, the Kōtuku’s survival is a powerful conservation success story — and a symbol of hope for endangered wildlife.

Together, we can raise awareness and help give the Kōtuku the recognition it deserves. If you’d like to get involved by displaying a poster in your town, shop, workplace or community centre, or by helping in another way, please let us know!
